This has already been requested before, but recent discussions about asian names show that it would be a great improvement to please most of users. The tick box would be in edit name window (near birthday year), and when checked, last name would show first place in the credit list.

Well while this might be useful. It would be even more useful if you would stop trying to create interpretations. Especially when they are wrong to begin with.

A user makes a reasonable request. Just who do you think you are to answer in this manner?

Agreed

In relation to Yves request, if I am understanding correctly that is solely for local use I think the idea sounds fine for some users.

As it is a tick box, each user can choose to check it or not (same as many options in Tools/Options).

Agree with this one too.

Skip this is local only, what is the problem that will not mess your precious database?

It doesn't have to touch the database at all. A optical change would do the trick.
So instead of showing First Name Middle Name Last Name it would show Last Name, First Name Middle Name.

The program already has a tic box to reverse the name display in the Tools>Options: Defaults tab. For this to work just for Asian names, a tic box for "Reverse Display" could be added to the "Assign" and "Edit Role" dialoge boxes, much like the "Uncredited" and "Voice Only" tic boxes, in the profile Cast & Crew edit window. This, of course, would be local only and would not be contributed like the "Voice Only" & "Uncredited".

While I don't know that it would be a "great improvement to please most of users", I have no problem with a local only check box.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

Agreed too.
Skip did you even read the request, or was it something like an allergic reaction?
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Of course it would have to be contributable. Otherwise it doesn't make sense.
We would enter Chow into the last name field and Yun-Fat into the first name field. But instead of adding Chow Yun-Fat into the credited as field, we would check the box and leave the credited as empty. And still we would get the correct credit.

I'm guessing it would be treated as "custom cast", similar to the "custom crew" we currently have.
Although, to be honest, I see no harm in it being contributable: it would keep the name data in consistent fields but allow the name to be displayed as credited without the need of using "credited as".

At this time, we have two sort of users : those who don't really care about asian names, and those who are upset to see them wrongly handled. What I proposed would please both side as nothing changes for the first ones, and it's far better for the second ones. When I wrote "most", I meant that I do not see who can be bothered by this. For example, I have nothing to do with reasons of rating, or bold and italic in overviews, and I'm not bothered by those features that please other users.

in the ambition to make the online-data most correctly it only make sense contributable, I think.

e.g.
credit says:
"Chow Yun-Fat" -> "Chow" is his last-name, "Yun-Fat" his given-name, so with the new feature it could be entered as:

-> "Yun-Fat//Chow" [x] reversed order

This checkbox didn't solve problem-cases like "Tony Leung Chiu-Wai" (discussion for this could be continued here, I guess: http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=36906 ) but it would be a good start
