This is related to this thread which devolved into political bickering. Please, let's try to avoid that happening again.

Since Canada (Quebec) isn't a country, I'd like to request it be removed from the CoO list.

Currently there's a Country of Origin called Canada (Quebec) as well as one called Canada. And regardless of the number of movies made in Quebec, the fact is that Canada is the country and Quebec is the province. The CoO list has no United States (California) or United Kingdom (Scotland) or anything like that, so there really shouldn't be a Canada (Quebec).

The problem with the existing setup is that is messes up filtering and stats. When I filter on movies made in Canada, I want it to show all movies made there, not just all movies made in the 9 provinces and 3 territories that are not Quebec.

If it's possible to have all Canada (Quebec) profiles automatically have their CoO set to Canada, that'd be great too.

I just can't understand why something who is there since so many years is that much of a problem suddenly... Can I request to have Taiwan and Hong Kong removed also because they aren't country? Of course I can but I won't because I have better things to do than annoy other volontary...

Just don't use it in your profile that's easy to do...

Unless Maryland is added to a CoO, I won't support Quebec.

FILMS ARE MADE IN MARYLAND, TOO.

That aside, I can see how this messes up filtering and stats, and as Quebec isn't a country, I can see why it should be removed.

Of course, northbloke brought up an interesting point:

I may be wrong, but isn't the problem that the CoO list, locality list and the ratings lists are connected, so in order to have the Quebec ratings, you need Quebec as a CoO?

I suspect that would have to be taken into consideration as well.

I'm pretty sure that ratings are tied to locality, not CoO.  Removing Canada (Quebec) from the CoO list would have no impact on locality or ratings.

Ah. So why it was originally added?

That's my point. It was added certainly for a reason in the list.

Why this sudden urge to downgrade DVDP? You just need to select Canada as the country of origins in place of Canada (quebec). Seriously I don't see what is the big deal from some canadians users... The same thing would happen with a Canada (Ontario) or a Canada (Alberta) and I wouldn't make a fuss to see it removed.

Too bad that one user had decided that I'm the bad guy for my oppinion on this weird thing of the day...

I agree, but just an aside, although Scotland is part of the UK, it is an actual country.

I would also LOVE to see the UK split up for CoO to England, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland considering I have movies from each.

I agree it should be removed. We don't specify CoO for the other provinces. As to why it was originally added, I'm assuming it was simply Ken copying over the locality list when he first introduced CoO to the program.....

I think it should be expanded

United States(choose your State)
Canada (Choose your Province)

That way I can spend even more time trying to figure out where a movie originated

I agree, Since Quebec is not a country, then it should be removed.  This is only a request, as simple as it might be, no need to get upset about it...

Do we want to go this route? If so, then Hong Kong and the United Kingdom also needs to be removed.
Hong Kong is now considered part of China and the UK is actually 4 countries.

I agree the UK should be split up, but HK should stay for reasons Sam and Hal gave in the closed thread.

I don't think we should go down the route of DVD Profiler secterism, but it would be interesting to know what makes Quebec so special that it's got its own CoO.

BTW; I've always wondered why we don't have DDR and BRD for historical reasons. There were many films made when those two states were separated. Now it's all Germany though, but we still have things like Former Soviet Union.

With the way things are in the US TV industry, shouldn't we also have United States (Canada) as quite a few TV shows are actually produced up there?
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.

We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

You don't want to complicate things any further, do you?

We have enough round robin arguments now.

Wait, I got it, aside from United States(Canada), we will have Canada(United States).  That should cater to our psychological need to argue

I have the perfect solution:

We simply remove all of the affected CoO and replace them with "The Colonies"
