As most of you know... I love collecting TV Series. Even more then collecting movies. I started way back when the first season of The X-Files was released at a $150 retail price back then. I am so glad prices came down so much for season sets!

My favorite thing about collecting TV Series is being able to complete a series... and have every episode.

Today I got this in the mail...

Jason of Star Command / Space Academy / Ark II

All Regions

Released: 10/28/2008

Which is 3 complete TV series in 1 boxset.

With this set I now have 150 Completed TV Series!

I am so thrilled I hit this milestone! You can see my list of completed series HERE

I understand completely. I await season six of Have Gun - Will Travel, which will finish the series. My wife and I revisit Bones and Castle often, and there are other series (especially westerns) I watch gleefully.

I suspect collectors enjoy some recent shows, but actively seek out shows from our childhood and youth... the cherished memories of our individual pasts.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

“I am so thrilled I hit this milestone!....”

Me too!

I started collecting TV series in December 1999 with The Twilight Zone Vol. 14, These be will completely updated next month when series 5 Blu-ray is released. These were shortly joined by the The Sopranos, The X-Files, Inspector Morse and the Avengers in 2000.

After battling computers and online communications since 1956 and short sabbatical from computers in January 2000 I retired my old 86 and bought a new computer and joined the mob on the internet. That and buying the DVD Profiler was all that was needed to complete a serious addiction of collecting TV series.  After all now with a few clicks I could have the darn things delivered right to my front door.

I mainly collect crime drama (detective, police) mysteries, sci-if and westerns. And some classic sitcoms like I Love Lucy, I Dream of Jeanie, etc. .

I have added a tag to mark complete TV series and as time permits checking and verifying my collection for complete TV series. I have 286 that are candidates for completes series.

For crime/dramas I have recently branched out to Scandinavian and Italian TV series.

I am a collector of TV series as well, but have some catching up to do with you guys...

My favorite peeve: companies bringing out only part of a TV series, varying from half of the first season to all but the last season.

A growing trend I fear, since I notice many recent TV series being available on VOD, but not on DVD/BD.
At the same time, some well remembered TV series from the '80s and '90s still need to be detected by the publishers. In those cases there are also often copyright issues (shouldn't happen with newer ones though).

I agree. Starting a series on DVD then abandonment.

I collect Tv shows, alot as well.  It is the largest genre in my collection.  It probably turned out this way because in the VHS days it was not an option.  The generally try to complete a seerise, with a few exceptions.

I know what you mean... feel the same way... but when it gets down to it... I am usually at least happy I have some of the series to enjoy. I figure it is better then none at all.

I have a nice handful of shows that are from my childhood... such as the boxset in the first post.  It is a lot of fun watching some of them again... especially now being able to share the show with my daughter.

But sometimes memory and genre just isn't enough... and all you can think is "what was I thinking back then!?!"  A few had me shaking my head trying to watch it again... like...

H.R. Pufnstuf: The Complete Series

Region 1

Released: 2/10/2004

Full Frame 1.33

Monster Squad: The Complete Series

All Regions

Released: 6/23/2009

Full Frame 1.33

But still... part of my childhood so...

What really pisses me off is that the studios will hook you with the first season then stop because they don't want to pay the rights to the music in the series like they did with "WKRP in Cincinnati". They butchered the first season DVD release by editing out all the original music and replaced it with royalty free crap and by doing this they actually had to cut out entire scenes and even dubbed over original dialogue. It was a travesty. The first season was released over 4 years ago and was received with nothing less than utter disdain from fans of the show. We'll never see the other 3 seasons .

Northern Exposure (on that show they changed the music from the original) was the first series i encountered this. What i gathered is that the DVD's would actually cost twice as much if they paid the royalties of the music used on the show. Personally i blame on the greed of the music industry on these ones, not the studios.

Yeah... but I think if they need to completely butcher a show to release they just shouldn't bother. Now don't get me wrong... I can see one or two small changes if there is something they can't get the rights to... but if they need to change more then that it probably shouldn't be released at all.

I would gladly pay more for "WKRP in Cincinnati". It was a great show with outstanding music. I just wish the music rights holders would be a little more flexible so the fans of the show can enjoy it as it was originally aired .
