In most standalone player the subtitles are numbered (1,2,3,4) and if the movie has started with no subtitles, you have to push a button x number of times to get to your language subtitles. But that x number differ from dvd to dvd.
So besides having more accurate info, you will also know how many times you have to push that button.
And before people start to post "that something I would never use", just remember that we are not all americans in here. And some of us are dependent of subtitles to fully understand. |

Honestly, how many people would sit there, ready to watch a film, and look to Profiler to see how many times they need to hit the button to get to the desired subtitle. I know I wouldn't. | Posted: | | | | The problem with subtitles is that there can be more than one for one language.
Even for an american film with english subs I've seen 4 subtitle tracks:
The first one is for when people speak not English but the viewer is supposed to understand them. It's one of these subtitle tracks that get automatically enabled when you start the movie and you only notice them when a foreign language is spoken.
The second one is the standard subtitle track that spells out what people are saying.
The third one is the subtitle for the deaf and hard-of-hearding (SDH) where you get in addition to the text sound information such as *explosion off-screen* or *phone rings*
And the fourth is a trivia track

I never understood why those have to be in correct order... So I wouldn't use this feature to see correct order (sorry force ) but I'd still like it for what Lewis & DJ Doena said - but there has to be an additional field for 'Commentary', 'SDH', 'Trivia' etc. | | | |

No, I don't look up the Audio Tracks, because in 99,9% of the times I use the default (first) audio track. So subtitles in correct order is a waaaay more useful to me than Audio-tracks in correct order. | | | Last edited: by No-way |

| Posted: | | | | In the case of audio tracks, each track needs to be matched with info about format. That means a check list won't work. For subtitles, we don't track anything but a one-word description, so a list of check boxes is fine. |

Due to various reasons...background noise, whispering, etc...I often need to select the subtitles during different parts of a film. One person wanted the AC3 listed first, then next DTS, etc... This is a problem we have never had with subtitles, since they have always been checkboxes.
On another note, the order in which subtitiles appear when you click through them on the remote, or the order listed in the menu, might not be that actual order they are encoded on the disc, since the software that presents the choices could be made to list them in different orders based on the region settings of the player. I don't know that this is the case, but it is possible. | | | Kevin |
