| Posted: | | | | I think these multi-season sets are mentioned in the rules. In this case, each season would be classed as a child and contain the details for all episodes, there would be no disc level profiles, and the entire set would be classed as a film box set (ie. no cast & crew). It's not ideal, but until grandchildren are introduced, you're right, it's the best way to do it. |

So basically, everything has to be done at the boxset level, regular cast are to be repeated for each episode and, if one wants to, he can copy that information for each disc in the set for the episodes on this disc.

Fame - The Complete First Season: The profile is pretty much empty. The online DB doesn't have any child profiles for the discs and the crew & Crew are both empty. I haven't checked the rest of the profile yet.
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea - Sea. 1, Vol. 1: Online DB has child profiles for the discs. The BoxSet has no crew and I think (haven't checked yet) that the cast is not complete. The child profiles have no cast & crew, they have features, languages and episode synopsis in the overview.
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea - Sea. 1, Vol. 2: Same as above except that some child profiles have a Cast which doesn't even have the entire Regular cast on disc 1.
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea - Sea. 2, Vol 1: Same as above.
On all 3 Boxsets profiles and corresponding discs profiles, the Features seem to be pretty screwed up as they even change from one disc to another within a given boxset.
So in short......there's a lotta work to do on those babies. If it was just for me, I would do it thus: The box gets a master profile, each disc in the set gets a child profile using Disc ID or UPC, whichever is appropriate. On each child, fill in the appropriate checkboxes for things that pertain to that disk only. Do the Overview for each disc as a simple list in proper sequence from disc 1 to disc 2 to disc 3 etc. Use dividers and enter the Cast & Crew for each episode on the disc. (Note that if you plan to submit these, you must also add the Cast & Crew stuff to the Master.) A recent set that was approved that you can check out for reference is "The Buccaneers" starring Robert Shaw. I didn't put the cast/crew lists into the master on that one because it was a new submission. I don't carry all that stuff in the master on my local, but no doubt somebody will add it later on. | | | John

For a series with season-by-season box set releases the answers in this thread certainly apply. Also, if an entire series is released under a single UPC (for example, BBC's The Young Ones with both seasons in one Digipack) this would be the way to do it.
But what about the uber-box-sets that come out, ones which contain a full rack of the exact same season-by-season sets, but merely in a giant slip cover that has it's own UPC and acts as a container for all of the previously released season set boxes (also still bearing their original individual box set UPCs).
Do we again profile the uber-box set with the episodes, cast, and crew for the entire series (season 1 + season 2 + season 3...and so on), a list possibly hundreds of episodes long? If so, this seems extremely redundant. Granted you can't do it now, but imagine if disc level "grandchildren" were added. An episode would be profiled three times in one release.
Or do we simply leave each season box set as a stand alone entry (as they were already previously profiled when initially released) and just add their profiles as box set contents to the uber-box as we do with film collections and leave it at that? Personally, this seems much more logical a choice. Depends on how the mega-set is set up. If there is only the one box, and all the individual discs in digipacks or something similar, then I would do a master profile for the entire set, then a child profile for each disc, naming them according their sequence. (Such as: Stargate SG-1: Season 4: Disc 3 and so on.) Do not do a profile for each season box if there are any included in the mega-set. In most cases, you'll find that the child profiles for each season are already out there, so it's just a matter of gathering them all together under the master profile for the megabox. Fill in or create those that are incomplete or missing. It will be much easier to transition from disc level to episode level later on if the child profiles are already out there. | | | John

| Posted: | | | | Quoting Touti: Quote: I know it's been discussed a few times and there's still an ongoing thread about it in the contribution rules comitee forums. To be honnest I didn't folllow them and I really don't feel like reading over 20 pages of yet another endless debate.
I bought 4 box sets of TV Series and I wonder if there is a consensus now on how they should be profiled. Right now they're a little messy and I'd like to fix them. I'll do it the way I want them but I don't mind making them "contribution friendly" if it's not too much extra work.
Do we profile episodes at the disc level or at the boxset level ? Do we repeat the regular cast in each episode or do we put them once at the box set ? Do we enter cast at all at the box set level ? This is how I have been contributing TV series, I repeat all regular cast as credited in each episode. You'll find on some series they change from episode to episode. I contribute everything to the parent, I'll repeat the contributions for the children if they already exist in the main DB. Since children are optional at this time. If you examine XML code you can copy the cast and crew in notepad and edit out the parts you need to make it easier to add them to the children without having to repeat all the work you done in the parent. Since contributions are user driven and Ken allows TV sets to have both cast and crew in the parent as well as the children it is pretty much up to the contributor if they want to contribute only to the parent or the child or both. The main thing you can't do is remove cast and crew data from the parent since it isn't handled like a normal box set. | | | Are you local?
