Skip Not hard to comprehend at all...we just seem to have a different definition of 'rare'. For me, rare means pseudonyms that are easily proven. If you are going to use the common name feature for an actual 'name', then you have lumped yourself in with the people that want to use this feature without a standard. | Posted: | | | | Don't be so quick to assume no one had the disc until street date. Some retailers and etailers release discs early. I myself had the Black Snake Moan disc on June 5th, when my review copy came in. I frequently make updates or contributions based on the actual disc, well before street date. I didn't on BSM, though. | | | "This movie has warped my fragile little mind." |

| Posted: | | | | The cited example, Black Snake Moon, points up the problem Skip describes since we don't have common name standards.
In this thread we have one user who says the common namd IS Charlie 'Skip' Pitts and another user who says it IS Charles Pitts. Which should be used as the common name? I certainly don't know - and its pure conjecture in any case which name is the "common" one. I realize it doesn't matter which is "correct" so long as one name is identified as "common" and all variants are shown in the "credited as" field. But if I use "Charles Pitts" as common name in my database and Skip uses "Charlie 'Skip' Pitts" as common name in his database [Sorry Skip for using you as my example] and we both contribute profiles with Mr. Pitts in them, the online database (if both profiles are accepted) will have two actors credited as "Skip Pitts." This doesn't solve the linking problem and won't until there is some way to guarantee that only one "common name" actor goes by "Skip Pitts." | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges. I don't have to show you any stinking badges. DVD Profiler user since June 15, 2001 |

Here are just a few links that shows that he goes by the full name, incuding "Skip" as his nickmame.

From the first site: Although guitarist Charles “Skip” Pitts also played on many Stax records, he got his start in Washington, DC. Before he was even fifteen, Pitts was part of a doo-wop group that auditioned for Ahmet Ertegun at Atlantic Records; soon after, he backed northern soul great Gene Chandler on his “Rainbow ‘65” hit single and performed on Chandler’s Live at the Regal album. By age sixteen, Pitts was playing with the Isley Brothers, then, a few years later, he joined Wilson Pickett’s Midnight Movers. Of course, Pitts is best known for the mighty wah-wah chords that cut through the opening of Isaac Hayes’ seminal “Theme from Shaft,” as well as his onstage work backing the Black Moses.
From the myspace site, look under band members: Band Members Charles "Skip" Pitts - Guitar Willie "Too Big" Hall - Drums Ben Cauley - Trumpet Scott Bomar - Bass Marc Franklin - Trumpet Derrick Williams - Tenor Sax Kirk Smothers - Barritone Sax/Flute Jim Spake - Tenor and Barritone Sax Hector Diaz - Percussion Marvell Thomas - Keyboards Ronnie Williams- Keyboards
From the nytimes: So it seemed only natural for him to turn to the drummer Willie Hall and the guitarist Charles (Skip) Pitts from the Bo-Keys while creating the score for “Hustle & Flow.”
“They did ‘Shaft,’ they did ‘Truck Turner,’ ” said Mr. Bomar, referring to two Isaac Hayes blaxploitation movies. “And in ‘Kill Bill’ Tarantino used some of the score from ‘Tough Guys,’ and the parts he used were intros to songs that were pretty much Willie Hall and Skip on the high-hat and wah-wah.
So, skip is clearly his nickname. Since he's better known as Charles 'Skip' Pitts, then I think that it's clear that it's his common name and not Skip. I don't care how much stuff you've dug up on this guy, you didn't do the initial profile that I am talking about, and there were no sources given. I don't play guessing games and am not about to start. | | | John

pdf I would call that only partially functional then. If you don't have a way to determine the correct name to put in there, the mechanics of doing it don't mean much. And thank you for the Yes... | | | John

YOU are a such a stickler for following the rules, why aren't you backing us up here? Because the rules don't have an out based on your belief that it is not 'fully functional. The rule simply says, "Use the "As Credited" field where the person's name differs from the credited name." There is nothing in the rules requiring a standard. Because of that, if you don't use the feature, people can vote 'no'. As I have said, quite a few times, I am on your side and think we should wait for a standard. Unfortunately, the rules are not. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Do you have any documentation to verify this? LOL Maurice is my GIVEN name. So it would depend on your viewpoint the number of people that know me as Skip, far outweighs those that know me as Maurice. OTOH Maurice is used in formal settings and for paperwork. You can call me anything you want...just don't call me late for dinner. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here
