Hi

My setup is a little different, I have 777's and use an Escient device as an interface which allows individual disc selection using the disc number. I went through the 995 manual (as I am sure you did) and apparently there is no direct play function that I can find. And remember we are all "special" at one time or another

Escient is a company that made server devices that interfaced Sony and Kenwood DVD changers, they were bought out by Denon a few years ago and recently stopped producing devices. The ones I have are DVDM-100's. Basically they are switch devices that can interface up to five changers. When a disc is entered they go out to a database and look up information about it, including cover art and display a graphical interface on your TV to make it easy to manage large disc collections. I have just over 3K worth of discs in my changers and while they do have their shortcomings they certainly do make it easy to find and play a movie. Give it a Google, they were in business for quite a few years and there is plenty of info about them floating around on the net. If you have any specific questions please feel free to ask.

Holy crap dude ! Thats insane

I did end up googling the name and saw that the DVDM-100 and it only handled the 777 and 3 of them.

I was kinda jazzed about that unit until i saw the changer limits unless the web site info is out of date.

Man now I know I don't have a DVD problem I only have 680ish titles ( I figure about 1200 1300 disks ) and I am not loading all the bonus content DVD's

I wonder why they don't make stuff liek this any more.

I think the better way to do a product like this is Wifi Access Point router and use IP address Space to access the devices via a tablet device.

Oh well, the hunt continues.....

They chose the high end changer because it uses RS-232 (serial) control on the units, and yes the 100's are limited to three, but the 552's can do up to five. That information is still correct. The Kenwood changers that they support are no longer made either so you are pretty much limited to the 777's. The reason these are not made any more is exactly as you suggested they are old fashioned tech, the new way is to rip everything to your server and use a Dune, Popcorn Hour or whatever to control you stuff. I don't have a DVD problem...I can quit anytime

BTW: I currently use a Pronto system to run my home but am looking into the possibility of migrating over to the iPad.

I've read that the Sony 777 ES is plagued with issues such as damaging discs and "forgetting" library information. I don't know that I'd trust my collection to a carousel that's affectionately regarded to as "The Disc Eater" in many A/V forums .

Fortunately I have never personally experienced th alignment issue that you refer to, I have been useing nine of theses things for about six years now, I have a buddy in Texas who has eight and he hasen't had any problems either. So I am not sure I would say plagued, however having your discs destroyed by a changer is really not something I would like to experience

Found this tid bit for direct disk access over on the AVS forum :

Press DISPLAY on the remote
Press ENTER on the remote
Enter the slot number of the disc you would like to play using the keypad
Press DISPLAY twice to get the OSD off the screen.

And shocker its works !

Sweet !

I hated thumbing through using the remote, it was faster to get up and use the jog wheel :D

I am finding some neat stuff there as well for the 995

Also found a tid bit about diagnostic menu :

Here is how to get into the Diagnostic Mode and view the firmware version:

With power to the unit OFF: On remote, press TOP MENU, CLEAR, I/O (Power) in sequence. Press 5 from the Diagnostic Mode Menu.

Some neat stuff in there like laser hours : I have 1 unit at 580h and another at 1089h I can't seem to get the 3rd into the dia mode.

Good greief I can't believe I missed this thread before. What a monster setup! (so envious) I'm sorry I didn't see this becuase I have all the Sony 777 and 995 IR, RS232 and IP codes and would be happy to share any info. (Edit: oh I see now that I did make a post earlier, but I forgot to come back ...)

Most of what I have is built into LoadDVD, which controls the 995's using IR and the 777 using either IR or RS232. Someday I plan to control the BDP-CX7000ES with RS232 / IP, but unfortunately the CX-960 has no way that anybody has discovered to select a disc by slot#.

Here is the sequence I use in LoadDVD with the USBUIRT blaster. The delays have been worked out to be compatible with my own setup, IR repeaters, etc. The commands are interprested by my own a/v engine. %Slot% is the number stored in the DVDP Slot field. I think there are a number of people sucessfully using the LoadDVD default embedded sequence. The latest version of LoadDVD allows you to customize it.
