Unless I missed it why couldn't you just watch the movie or tv show with the subttiles and take the characters name right from the movie, I find that to be the most accurate and the film maker is the one who gave the info!

First of all, subtitles are not added by the "filmmaker, but by the distributor.

Secondly, it is possible that the character may be referred to several different ways throughout the movie, so which do you use; or may not be "named" until the end of the movie.

Are you seriously suggesting that people should should watch every movie from beginning to end in order to do the cast list?

No matter what anyone says, I do not believe anyone is doing this!

I do it.  Regularly.  I'd also be careful about suggesting I'm not telling the truth.

This certainly is an option but it is not the only option.  The rules say you can use another source but do not specify what that source should be.  That is all I am saying.

That would be assuming the caption typist is correct, I wish I had a nickel for every error i have seen in either Open or Closed Captioning.

And the captioning typist is not part of the Production Team as well, the Credits were used for a reason.

not asying everyone should do this but I certainly can list full names of the characters of my favorite films and list the time on the dvd when it is stated, again just another source, oh most films use a FINAL shooting script for subtitles on the domestic films if in doubt can ask my friend who is a screenwriter

I've done that before when trying to figure out a role name for a character when one wasn't provided.

Actually, I do it this way.  But, to be fair, I only audit a profile immediately after watching the DVD so I know which actors I need to find role names for and where, in the film, to find them.  Most recently I did this with Owen Wilson and Night at the Museum.  He was uncredited so I had to go back to the film and find his character's name.

Well, then you don't do it that way since you cited a specific difference.

I believe he is saying that you don't run the movie from beginning to end and capture the role names that are missing from the credits as the movie is playing, all the way through.

That is what Rifter claims he does.
