And dubbed films are sort of "banned" by the Norwegian audience. So when I go to the movies and see an American/Chinese/German film, it will only be subtitled, not dubbed. | | | Teaching is an act of love | | | Last edited: by yvonne_ |

While you read the subtitles, you can still hear it and get all the correct intonations that the actors intended. That Die Hard clip loses so much. Even if you don't understand, his attitude should still be funny, surely? | | | Jon "When Mister Safety Catch Is Not On, Mister Crossbow Is Not Your Friend."

Alias 2.18.

Italian subtitles: "E' svedese?" (meaning: "Is that from Sweden?") Yes, of course, but as I said earlier, I rarely use subtitles. But no, I don't think it's worse than dubbing, because at least then I can choose not to look at the subtitling. I hate dubbing and it gives me the creeps to be honest. | | | Teaching is an act of love |

| Posted: | | | | I have to be honnest. I does not bother me. seeing a lot of German TV by Sat. However it is sometimes funny hearing the original voice after you seen the series or movie on German TV. I like more the Captain Janeway in German as the original voice of Kate Mulgrew. This is quote from an interview: Quote: Space View: Did you ever hear your German synchronization voice?
Kate Mulgrew: No, how does it sound? I want to hear it!
Space View: We believe that the voice of an actor or actress is a very important instrument....
Kate Mulgrew: Very important! How are the people who synchronize chosen?
Space View: It is difficult to find a voice like yours. Garrett Wang said at Fed Con IV, that your voice is a mixture of Kathrine Hepburne and a smurf. We probably don’t have anybody sounding like that.
Kate Mulgrew: Garrett! You better start to read your scripts. (laughs) That is so mean! | | | Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions. |

Well, like I said, films aren't dubbed in Norway, cartoons being the only exception. And that of course also applies for dvds AS WELL as for the movies.(..) And that was generally my point. | | | Teaching is an act of love | | | Last edited: by yvonne_ |

| Posted: | | | | Hi, I am an Australian with English as my prime language. I have been a fan of foreign films (non-Hollywood) for many years, i.e. European & Asian in the main, mostly due to our multicultural broadcasting network SBS (www.sbs.com.au) who broadcast with English sub-titles in yellow text. There are many English language films where I need to turn the sub-titles on by necessity: 1) Any Sylvester Stallone movie - the man just mumbles his lines and I dare anybody to be able to follow his dialogue otherwise. 2) Many old black & white movies when the quality of the audio is suspect and a challenge even to a good quality theatre system. 3) When my now ex-wife was nattering away in my ear whilst I was trying to watch a film. She had an uncanny ability to choose the exact moment duiring a crucial point in the movie to start chatting, particulary after having watched it for 2 hours and it had a complex plot - thanks goodness for the rewind button and index points Personally, I don't like dubbed movies usually due to poor lip-synching. I much prefer sub-titles. Sometimes I get amused by the sub-titles where the translator/interpreter has infuse their own bias or censorship cheers & ciao et tu Brute! | | | Veni, Vidi, Visa, Vista, Voodoo, Vino I came, I saw, I bought, I installed Vista, I'm now haunted, I need wine

| Posted: | | | | I almost always watch a movie in it's original language (if needed with subtitles), no matter if it's spoken in a language I don't understand. I always like to learn a few words and non-synced lips destract me more than text on the bottom of the picture. The only exceptions are some animated movies which I like better in Dutch or watch with my youngest child. | | | Martin Zuidervliet
