Quote: I think in general skipnet50 is right with this statement. You can't force anybody to contribute full profiles and you can't force anybody to correct existing errors. Have I missed something?
Then what is the point of making the contribution? If I make a change to a cast list, I try to make sure the rest of the cast list is correct. If I miss something, and other people catch it, they vote 'no'...Skip included. Should I have told them all to bugger off because I didn't make the error in the first place? Of course not. The 'adult' in me tells me to withdraw the contribution, correct the error and resubmit. There is another option that the 'adult' in me would accept and that is to leave the contribution as is and let the screeners decide. I'd disagree with that. There have been times when I've made changes to cast/crew lists due to non use of middle name field where warranted. My notes specify what I've done so that is that. If, for example, the sound crew is incorrect from a prior contribution then I would find a no vote based on that to be wrong. The voting screen shows what changes I have made for individual cast members by highlighting them so I would say that all cast and crew alterations count as single fields in themselves. The overview is one single field as has already been said. ** Skip's cont notes for the title originally said Overview edited for Italics ' that's reason enough for a no vote as the rules for italics weren't followed. As usual he's gone off on one. He's right. Everyone else is wrong. ** Edit : Does that make sense to you? I'm a bit drunk sorry. | | | Guns don't kill people. It will take a great deal less time and effort. I would agree with you IF someone didn't turn each 'no' vote into a vendetta against the person who dared to vote 'no'. Had Skip just let it go, and let the screeners decide, it would have ended there. However, he chose to withdraw his submission and resubmit with a note to Rick in his new set of contribution notes. When that didn't work, he withdrew it yet again and resubmitted with the original note to Rick, a new note to Ken and Geri AND a third note to include the new set of 'no' voters. Rick didn't come to the forums until AFTER Skip addressed him in the contribution notes. I am glad Rick brought it here becase this type of abuse has got to stop. The contribution notes are there to let people know what you changed and why. They are not there to be used as a platform to attack other users. /end rant. Now if you will all excuse me, I must go and have my arse handed to me, by my kids, on the Wii. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. And for anyone else.
Your initial No vote was perfectly acceptable and i clarified it. Had you chosen to vote YES and leave me the note I probably would have been much more amenable to the change. Your continued No vote as I ghave said is nothing short of an abuse of privilege to vote and an attempt to force a user to do what YOU want him to do. I will not do it now no matter what, you were dead wroing and in my view here you are only making a bad situation wose. Sorry, guy, i don';t cotton to being blaclkmailed. If you want the change then you make it and stop your abusive tactics.
I have to go now, see ya'll later.
Skip So if I voted YES, with a note saying it was wrong and why you would have changed it.... but since I voted NO with a note saying it was wrong and why you refuse to change it? Sorry "guy" but that is not how the system is set up. Sounds like you need to make a feature request to have all NO votes removed and replaced with YES vote with explainations. This whole thing is freggin insane. | | | Last edited: by lyonsden5 |

It's usually the only idea I have. I just got this email and couldn't resist: Oldie, but goodie... Dear Alcohol, First & foremost, let me tell you that I'm a huge fan of yours. As my friend, you always seem to be there when needed. The perfect post-work cocktail, a beer at the game, and you're even around in the holidays, hidden inside chocolates as you warm us when we're stuck in the midst of endless family gatherings. However, lately I've been wondering about your intentions. While I want to believe that you have my best interests at heart, I feel that your influence has led to some unwise consequences: 1. Phone calls: While I agree with you that communication is important, I question the suggestion that any conversation of substance or necessity takes place after 2 a.m. Why would you make me call anyone in the middle of the night, especially, an ex-boyfriends/girlfriends when I know for a fact they do not want to hear from me during the day, let alone all hours of the night? 2. Eating: Now, you know I love a good meal, but why do you suggest that I eat a kebab, a butter chicken curry along with a sausage with cheese, onion and mustard (washed down with WINE & topped off with a Kit Kat after a few sweet chili and sour cream red rock chips)? I'm an eclectic eater, but I think you went too far this time. 3. Clumsiness: Unless you're subtly trying to tell me that I need to do more yoga to improve my balance, I see NO need to hammer the issue home by causing me to fall down. It's completely unnecessary, and the black & blue marks that appear on my body mysteriously the next day are beyond me. Similarly, it should never take me more than 45 seconds to get the front door key into the lock. 4. Furthermore: The hangovers have GOT to stop. This is getting ridiculous. I know a little penance for our previous evening's debauchery may be in order, but the 3pm hangover immobility is completely unacceptable. My entire day is shot. I ask that, if the proper precautions are taken (water, vitamin B, bread products, aspirin) prior to going to sleep/passing out face down on the kitchen floor with a bag of popcorn, the hangover should be minimal & in no way interfere with my daily activities. Alcohol, I have enjoyed our friendship for some years now & would like to ensure that we remain on good terms. You've been the invoker of great stories, the provocation for much laughter, and the needed companion when I just don't know what to do with the extra money in my pockets. In order to continue this friendship, I ask that you carefully review my grievances above & address them immediately. I will look for an answer no later than Thursday 3pm (pre-happy hour) on your possible solutions & hopefully we can continue this fruitful partnership. Thank you, Your biggest fan P.S. | Posted: | | | | Well... I don't know. This whole matter is a little bit... ahmm... excessive, perhaps?
I would agree that no contributor is required to add/correct everything on a submitted profile, but I would think it makes sense to at least provide all of the info for the section you're submitting since you already went for the trouble of correcting that particular section. Otherwise, as pplchamp wisely stated, why bother in the first place?
Speaking on my own experience, a few days ago MovieBug submitted a new cover for Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs that made a nice use of the hard to scan reflective bars on top & bottom. However, colors were a bit off and I voted 'No' stating this, since the original cover had better color . The contributor was kind enough to PM me saying he had just resubmitted the cover correcting the color balance, for which I immediately gave him my 'Yes' vote.
Now, I'd say that was a nice, clean contributing experience. However, some of the feelings on this thread leave me thinking, was I way out of line by giving an initial 'No' vote? Was I blackmailing the contributor, forcing my own will unto him? Was the contributor traumatized/angered by my evil 'No' vote? I would think no. For myself, a 'No' vote is just a guideline/suggestion for building a better database, not an act of vileness, much less a blackmail. Those are pretty big words.
I'd say, if my own contribution gets a 'No' vote, I would happily correct it... or I may choose not to, in which case I can clearly deal with a negative vote on my history.
But that's just me. | | | Funny, these cookies don't taste anything like Girl Scouts.
