Well, I guess for mixing up adherence to a common set of simple rules with a "police state" you either have to be a teenager, retarded or Dutch.

No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

Useless to try to alert on a real problem. I'll stop to give my opinion here, it's impossible to discuss. It is also useless to answer me that it will be a good thing that I stop my posts, I know this is the opinion of most of people here.

Just to laugh a little, I looked at your signature:

No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of rules forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.

Please don't stop your contributions, and no not everyone declines your opinions. The signature you bring forward is an excellent way, though perhaps too 'philosophical for some people, of expressing 'our' caution to strict rules. Martin Zuidervliet's 'police state' is perhaps a bit strong, but I think /hope showing the same concern.

Answers like: just follow the rules, the rules are simple and clear, the leader makes the rules and you just have to follow them, are frustrating. This is not a simple 'IMDb-love issue' or 'just not wanting to follow the rules-issue'. It is a serious concern for the idea that all will go well when the rules are strict. History shows this is a serious mistake. As I mentioned earlier I expect -though I can never prove it (only if I experiment it myself, which I will not do)- some (a lot?) contributors will just say 'c&c according to the end credits' regardless whether this is really verified. This is just one example of the way in which strict 'application' of rules can create a false idea of correctness. Control might even become less because other users may react, OK nice work, following the rules, OK!

Another point. In my search for data, using all kinds of 'Third party data' (!) I once found an interesting site concerning the German Series 'Heimat'. Something was not clear to me and I contacted the webmaster, told him I was preparing a profile and he was very interested, even asked wether I could 'place a link to his site'. Of course I told him this was not possible, but he was happy I could use his information. This is quite another story than the 'I'll sew you when you use my data'-stories that I hear. This sometimes looks like an American desease.
By the way we had an interesting dicussion about his incompleteness in the first air-dates of the second series, I mentioned the ones that were shown on IMDb, and he told me that could very well be correct. And that brings me to another point in this 'true or false'-dicussion. There would be NO science if we only allowed publication of 'true facts'. We learn by mistakes. Profiles sometimes start as a mess, but they will become better and better, that's why recontribution is an important part of the 'shaping' process. You can distinguish two kinds of mistakes: accepting something that in the end is false, or declining something that in the end is true. For a non-life-threatening- situation as contributions to DVP I think the risk to make the first  mistake is to be preferred above the second. Strict application of (not always very clear) rules clearly goes for the second. So we decline a profile where (perhaps) that one uncredited actor, is not  100% identified.

I believe that the contribution process is rapidly maturing in terms of the rules. I personally think that it would be very helpful to all users if the contribution system matured at a similar pace. The free text nature of the contrubution process leaves a little to be desired in my view. We have check boxes to select what we want to contribute in a changed profile. I think that it would be helpful to have check boxes that incorporate the rules to provide some support for the contribution.

For example, if the contribution included changes to the Cast, a series of check boxes could be provided that offerred options to support the contribution such as:

1. Updates taken directly from film credits; or
2. Updates taken from another profile namely: nnnn; or
3. Other, please specify .....

I think that this would help new users and screeners alike and cut down on a lot of the bickering over the contribution process.

Golly gee willikers. Perhaps we are all doomed.

Or maybe, just maybe, people are busy doing other things? Or perhaps, because of the rules and most people following them, there are less things to vote on because profiles are finally becoming correct, and nothing needs to be fixed?

I did a bunch of updates last month, and right now I'm kind of worn out (because I did tv series cast/crews) so I'm taking time off from updating.

So gee, I wonder...

It was a joke and if you do not understand that, it's maybe because you're taking this program way too seriously. Either way you just proven the fact that you either do not have a sense of humor, are a law enforcer yourself or German.

ejh.sterenborg (Dutch) received a contribution suspension
Martin Zuidervliet (Dutch) was put in one line with a teenager and retarded
(are there no -unwritten- rules for polite/respectful conversation on this forum?, there are so many instances of lack of this on the Forum)
And my cast & crew contribution for the two Carnivàle series was finally approved and released; So I'm the lucky Dutch! Thank you!
But I'm out now, I feel uncomfortable/unwelcome/not at home on the Forum and I don't need an Emoticon to underline this (why don't 'we'  leave the use of Emoticons to under 12 giggling girls, chatting with their friends about nothing- sorry, what did I say earlier about teenager?).
SimonD. (OK throw all the yellow basterds to me).

Simon,

I would urge you to reconsider. Some of us here really enjoy the multicultural aspects of the forum. I actually prefer to be in a monority group of forum users apart from the fact that Region 1 users don't seem to understand what a slog it is for smaller regions to contribute.

I am hopeful that some forum moderation might occur soon. I would personally relish the task of giving a number of users a "holiday" to contemplate their behaviour. In my experience, the current problems in the forums could be resolved within a couple of weeks with appropriate moderation.

Hang in there!

Tigihof,

Putting aside historical issue for the purposes of this discussion, the only one I see peddling hate in this thread is you. You'd be first on my list for a "holiday" if I was moderating this forum. Pull your head in.

My, my, aren't we a little sensitive for an Aussie ?

OK, I will stay out of this. Don't care for rule denying whiners anyway (and that's all this thread is about).

Not at all. We believe in a "fair go" for all and are one of the most multicultural nations on earth.
