Is there some kind of virus scanner active? Have you checked that scanner's quarantine section?

If files disappear mysteriously, it's sometimes a false positive of a virus scanner that tries to protect you by moving the file into a protected section.

That's not going to work out of the box, sorry.

Are these actually different movies? Or just different cuts of the same movie?

Wasn't there a big discussion with the Blade Runner set on how to deal with a box that contains the same movie over and over again in different cuts?

Not at all.

The program profiles the DVD with the barcode number (EAN / UPC) in the country you bought it in. The text on the back is the same as on the overview field.

So if you have a DVD from the UK, it will be in English. If you have one from Germany, it will be in German. There are special areas in the world, like Canada that sometimes have a dual cover for the "main Canada" English and the Quebec French or Scandinavia, that sometimes has three or four different titles and overviews.

But for most of the world you have the cover and thus the profile in the country's dominant / official language where you bought the DVD from.

Here's an example for a multi-language back cover:

May I ask why do you want to switch German language profiles to English?

I'd be worried that the phantom profile is somehow just the most obvious sign that the database might be corrupted.

I would suggest restarting profiler, then flagging all and making sure that the count is without the phantom profile - if that is possible -

Then I would create a backup profile of only flagged profiles, create a new database and restore the backup.

To you as an experienced programmer I'd add leave out the cover images and simply move them to the new database folder, it's faster than backing up / restoring them, too.

Afterwards you can export both databases to XML and check (with WinMerge or a similar program) if they're otherwise identical.

And if you absolutely want to have multiple online databases, if you have your own webspace capably of MySQL and PHP, you can use phpDVDProfiler.

But that's really one of the strong features of the program: you don't *have* to agree with everything. You *can* make different decisions in your local database.

Exactly! If you want to do it your way, do it your way. I've been doing that for ages. Just change it and lock it.

DVD Profiler is not really a multi-user tool to be used from two computers at the same time.

There is the option to remote access the database (in Tools -> Options -> Sharing) but not really the way you try it.

You can flag profiles by using the space bar. Or you use the filter and then the available Collection -> Flag options.

Afterwards you can delete the profiles by selecting Collection -> Flagged -> Remove from collection.

Just because I'm curious, "Ctrl+A". Then go to Collection -> Flagged -> Refresh. There is no Refresh under flagged.

It's possible that your menu's are outdated. This used to be a problem with DVD Profiler's skin profiles.

You can re-customize it like I show below (I deliberately removed the entry to show you how to re-add it):

There's still an issue for the delta update.

I built the database from scratch with the Dec 29 version. Today I updated to the Jan 07 version.

In both when I add new profiles without checking "full update" I get an error in

mysqli.php on line 457

Either the SQL string is too long or the error output cuts it off but it says:

Quote:

INSERT INTO DVDPROFILER_dvd_common_actor (caid,firstname,middlename,lastname,birthyear,fullname) VALUES (2,'Liam','','Neeson',1952,'Liam Neeson'),(3,'Bradley','','Cooper',1975,'Bradley Cooper'),(4,'Jessica','','Biel',1982,'Jessica Biel'),(5,'Quinton','\'Rampage\'','Jackson',1978,'Quinton \'Rampage\' Jackson'),(6,'Sharlto','','Copley',1973,'Sharlto Copley'),(7,'Patrick','','Wilson',1973,'Patrick Wilson'),(8,'Gerald','','McRaney',1947,'Gerald McRaney'),(9,'Henry','','Czerny',1959,'Henry Czerny'),(10,'Yul','','Vazquez',1485,'Yul Vazquez'),(11,'Brian','','Bloom',1970,'Brian Bloom'),(12,'Maury','','Sterling',1971,'Maury Sterling'),(13,'Terry','','Chen',1975,'Terry Chen'),(14,'Omari','','Hardwick',1974,'Omari Hardwick'),(15,'David','','Hugghins',0,'David Hugghins'),(16,'Jacob','','Blair',1984,'Jacob Blair'),(17,'Rad','','Daly',1966,'Rad Daly'),(18,'Kyle','','Riefsnyder',26173, in /www/htdocs/djdoena/phpdvdprofiler/mysqli.php on line 457

Note how the insert ends abruptly in the middle of a statement:

Quote:

(18,'Kyle','','Riefsnyder',26173,

Additional note: None of these actors were new (i.e. were even in the new profiles). So it seems it tries to insert actors that are already in there without having changed their data (names or birthdates).

Although there is currently a contribution up that I voted negatively upon, I don't want it to make about that. I'm just interested in how you treat genres.

Let's for example take Saving Private Ryan, Platoon and M*A*S*H. All deserving of the War genre, yes?

What about Drama? Surely, they all contain the dramatic element. But here's the question: Which war movie doesn't? So isn't it kinda redundant to add the Drama genre as well?`

I could see the argument if someone says "I want to filter from Drama to find a movie I'm in the mood for" but for me there'd be a hug difference for being in the mood for drama like Kramer vs. Kramer and a war drama.

So, I'm just asking, do you fill up the drama slots (independent of contribution) with everything that fits or you select the most poignant genres that fit a particular movie?

PS: Adding the Comedy genre to M*A*S*H, now that is useful because the War / Comedy combo does come unexpected.
