A few days ago I posted this in the Facebook group "DVD Profiler Users", thinking that people there might not be reading the forum as closely as most of you guys here. Still, I guess it wouldn't hurt to post this info here as well.

Quote:
I have some new info regarding how to download the Online Profile List (hereafter referred to as the OPL). But just to make sure that we're all on the same page, I'd like to offer a short tutorial. Please bear with me if this is old news to you.

The OPL is a list of all profiles that are available in Invelos' online database. It contains some info on each profile. When you do an add by title, all the info that you see on that list comes from your local OPL (unless you click the Preview button - that data will be downloaded).

One piece of information in the OPL is the last change timestamp. When you select Refresh Updated Profiles, the online timestamps are compared to the local timestamps in your profiles, and if the online timestamp is newer, then that profile will show up as an available update.

The trouble that we are seeing is that when you select a function in Profiler than uses the OPL, Profiler tries to download an incremental update of the OPL. That means that it only downloads what's changed. Thus it's a much smaller download than a download of the full OPL. However, at the present, this incremental download does not seem to work. So, unless you do a full download, you'll still be working with the old OPL and will therefore not see any recent updates.

In earlier posts I have told you about two ways to get the full OPL; delete your local files or download it the way specified in the Knowledge Base. HOWEVER, it has just been pointed out to me that there is a third way: Click "Online/Refresh Online Profile List" while holding down the Ctrl key. I don't think this is documented anywhere.

Obviously having to download some 50+ MB of data every time you want to check for updates is annoying. Especially if you're paying for download traffic. So hopefully this problem will be rectified soon.

Is that still the case with the incremental update because it seems to be working fine for me?

For me, the incremental update worked yesterday, but not today.

If the incremental update works, then fine. The point is to understand what the OPL is, and that if the incremental update fails you're not getting the latest updates (if any).

How about the other issues still occuring with the online database (e.g. broken profile link, broken image symbols) because of the last update? Still not solved...

Which profile links are broken?

I've noticed some profiles don't load in the Online Collection viewer. Not sure why some do, but other don't.

The other issues mentioned are being discussed in other threads, and I would suggest that you don't spread those discussions to this or other unrelated threads.

Regarding the online profile lists, as far as I know they are updated daily. I don't know exactly when, but if it's been more than a day since you last checked, you ought to see an incremental download. If you don't, then your local lists are most likely out-of-date.

There is of course the possibility that there are days when no profiles at all are added to the online database. And in that case you might not see a download. But in my experience that has seldom happened (at least before the server update).

Note, though, that just because you get an incremental update of the online profile list, that doesn't necessarily mean that there are any updates for your collection. You can still get "All DVD Profiles are up to date."
