Ok, Just a Question for you, In the Latest Movie by "THE ROCK" (Gridiron Gang) He is Known as - DWAYNE "THE ROCK" JOHNSON, whereas in his Previous Movies he is known as just "THE ROCK", The Question is, What do I name him in the Profile? If I name him by his previous name it would be easier to find him in the Search Database, whereas by his Full Name you will not be able to find him in the Database for his previous movies..
Cheers

Whatever it says in the dvd credits is what you use.

As of right now, there is a enhancement being dreamed up by Ken to link all the credited individuals no matter what name they use, but for right now the rules state to use what is in the credits.

I would enter his name as 'The Rock' but check the 'Credited As' box and enter as per the DVD credits cover yourself both ways

For the moment, you can choose whatever name suits your fancy from the actor list, since we have no direction for this field yet.

Whatever the actual film credits say goes into the "Credited As" field.

Great idea, hal. Let's make a real mess and just have users use a dartboard to determine what the common name is.

Geoff, Ken has something in mind to standardize the problem you describe. For the moment I would suggest staying with simply As Credited. Until then there isn't much we can do because no two users are likely to agree on what name should be used. We should have a workable solution soon.

No, Hal's idea isn't such a bad idea.
If Geoffbro picks an entry already in the database for the Rock and used "credited as" to show the name difference, it's one less duplicate entry in the database we have to worry about, and definitely does NOT set a precedence for choosing a common name. It simply starts a linking process, that adding another new entry into the actor's database would not.

It's refreshing to see that at least one person around here actually understands how this functionality really works!

I never said I didn't understand it. But hal doesn't have the ability, as a user Community in two months we have not come up with any kind of standard. ken says he has plan, Hal doesn't want to wait for Ken to roll it out, he wants to implement it now and we can't . We have to sit back and be patient.

In an attempt to get back on track and get away from the bickering I will try and answer your question for this ONE INDIVIDUAL ACTOR.

At the moment, this is an easy decision.  For his entire career, which includes WWE DVDs and regular films, he has been credited as 'The Rock'.  This is the first credit I have seen where he uses his real name.  Because of that, I would enter 'The Rock' in the common name field and 'Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson' in the credited as field.

You say we have to sit back and be patient yet you continue to make changes to profiles including cast and crew. Unless I'm way off base here that is one of Hal's concerns.

I know you say your simply doing it "as credited" but, as Hal correctly points out, unless you use the credited as function you are changing the common name, as it currently exists in the profile. It is that simple. One more time, when you change an actors name to what is shown in the movie credits you are changing what is currently in the common name field unless you use the credited as section. You say you want a standard before you will do anything with it yet every time you do another audit you change it... without any standard.

The statement that Hal is the one not waiting is absurd. The fact is I have not seen a submission from Hal that changes any cast or crew. Perhaps I simply don't have the titles he is updating or, more likely he IS waiting till this gets worked out. It is those who continue to change cast and crew that are not waiting.

@Hal - There are others who understand the function. Myself for one.  I have however given up on trying to convince others. What can I say. For now... they win. I just don't have the energy you seem to have.

Since Unicus posted a "back on track" post while I was posting a "bickering" post I guess I should follow up with a "back on track" post

I agree in this case. I too would use 'The Rock' for the reasons Unicus states.

Don't forget, that would be The Rock/ /

Unicus, I must disagree.

If anything, his first credit would be Rocky Miavia. But, alas, WWE DVD's don't have credits. So, all those The Rock credits technically do not exist.

Since hs is distancing himself from his wrestling character, I would be enclined to use Dwayne Johnson as his common name, and link everything else to that. But, that is just my opinion.

Even if I use AS Credited and Credited As together, Rick, I am applying a standard and I will not unilaterally try and apply a standard, I can only go with As Credited untill such time as either the Community(not likey) or Ken reveals his paln, He has told us about it, but has not put it in practice. So, I wait and regardless my data matches the film credits ALWAYS. You guys are chomping at the bit and just can't wait, I have waietd for a new alias system for 3 years and i can wait awhile longer to get the details hammered out. That changes nothing with respect to As credited,  I don't care how much you squirm and I am not trying to bicker. I am being told to jump the gun and I don't care how many of you say so, I won't do it. SOMEBODY give me a standard that works RIGHT NOW and watch me change course.

All I am saying is it is not right to accuse Hal of not waiting when he is not the one submitting these changes.
