| Posted: | | | | I keep trying to contribute this title as it is not yet in the DB, but it keeps being auto-declined because: Please use birth years only to distinguish between otherwise identical cast and crew. New birth year submissions must be documented. The annoying thing is is that I am not adding any birth year's to anybody, certainly not intentionally. I copied the cast & crew lists from the US version of the same release, (after comparing them to the credits on the disc before contribution, not surprisingly I saw no deviation) which means any YoBs should already be in the DB and are not then 'new'. Anyway it is frustrating so after three auto-declines I am not gonna try again. Someone else can contribute it. |

| Posted: | | | | I would say remove the BYs, Bob. They don't belong there if they do NOT comply with the Rules relative to BY usage.

| Posted: | | | | Bob, all you have to do is say in your notes that the BY info is coming from an accepted contribution already in the database. Even better would be to mention the UPC/EAN of the already accepted profile which has the BY info in it.
Most everyone is generally skeptical of any BY info when it's being added to a profile. It's difficult to tell whether it's being propagated from an accepted profile or simply entered at a user's whim. Part of the problem with BY's is they are not propagated through the database automatically, it's up to the users to do that once the change has been accepted. If you didn't enter it and you're positive it didn't come from any plugin or outside enhancement (such as the actor/crew headshot database going around) then the only other place it came from is from a downloaded profile. Mention that or the best possible case is to figure which profile you downloaded that added it and mention it in your Notes and you're golden. | | | "Rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men" - Douglas Bader "A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools." - Douglas Adams |

| Posted: | | | | Vega it makes no difference, if the BY data is in there and does not conform with its function per the Rules it needs to go bye bye. BY has a purpose, for multiple actors with the same name, Bruce Willis, for example should NOT have a BY, IF you want it keep it local and don't contribute such data.

That is what I did explicitly after the first decline... it still got shot down....immediately...too fast for human review it has to be a bot of some kind. After that I tried to refresh the actors & crew DB before recontributing, it seemed to get rid of some of the YOBs, but not whatever the bot is getting hung up on though... | | | Last edited: by bob9000 |

| Posted: | | | | John.. it's not in the main database yet. Thats the problem. New reelases (which is how this is seen) are acceted /declined immediately. So, until it is accepted, no one else can see the profile unless he backs up that one profile and sends it to you. | | | Signature banned: Reason out of date... |

| Posted: | | | | I have seen this too in the last week. I have had three new titles to the database declined for the inclusion of BYs despite me clearly stating that the BYs were there from previously accepted updates from Invelos. I have PM'd Gerri to try and get an explanation. | | | Andy

Bruce Willis Tom Everett I just checked all three Die Hard titles in my local, and none have BY's, so this is something that has only recently surfaced, because I did updates on Die Hard 1 and Die Hard 3 (both accepted) within the last couple of months. I would suggest nuking the BY in those, and then locking down your Cast/Crew sections and only do updates after reviewing the changes to be made. | | | John

| Posted: | | | | It has happened lately with profile updates as well. I had to put 1 in 3 times stating that the BY was not my addition... but from an accepted profile. It did finally go through on the 3rd submission though. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | In light of the continuing problems with Birth Years, I have a question for
KEN and GERI
Awhile back we requested being able to opt in or opt out of receiving BY or contributing it in a profile. Have you made any progress on adding this to the functionality for cast & crew? | | | John

| Posted: | | | | I 'nuked' the Birth year on Willis because I could not see any other actor's with the same name in the DB and left Everett alone because I could. Lo' and behold almost instant approval. Guess that was the problem. Annoying though since the YoBs came from the DB in the first place. Ahh well. On to the next problem! | | | Last edited: by bob9000 |

| Posted: | | | | Are you sure they came from the Invelos db? Is it possible that the BYs came from the 'headshot db' instead? | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. They had to have come from IVS as I don't know what the headshot db is, nor have I ever used it by accident. | | | Signature banned: Reason out of date... |
