I'm in the process of updating cast/crew data (mainly dividers, plus adding all the missing crew data), I've gotten a little stuck on how to properly credit (if at all) a few things:

1. Gene Roddenberry has a created by in the credits (obvious he created the series), but not sure how to add this one if at all. The rules aren't too useful on Created by.

2. Jerry Goldsmith and Alexander Courage are credited for the main title theme. Would that get Composer or Song Writer or Not at all.

1. Original Characters By

2. Composer. They did not right any songs for the show.

I was about to start entering the same info for season 1 when i found someone had already entered Cast data into an external DB that can be imported.  I just asked in another thread  why that info had not been uploaded for general consumption yet.

Crew data is still needed but this might save you some work.

I don't know why it hasn't been imported into the profiles yet but if you do import it yourself and submit it, make sure you double check the info against the credits, otherwise there's a danger of the submission being declined. I don't know how the screeners feel about Tom's database being used as a source.

Thanks to Kevin for your answers.

As far as using Tom's database for importing cast data, it will most likely take just as long to verify it as it would to do to it by hand, IMO. For the sake of accuracy I'll keep doing it manually, unless someone beats me to it.

You take Season 1 and i'll start on Season 2.

Verifying the data makes sense but having someone someone else type in the basic data can only speed the verification process...i hope!

If Jerry Goldsmith and Alexander Courage are credited for the main title theme. It should be Song Writer Credited.  The Composer credit is for the person who wrote the music score that plays in the movie or TV episode. Not the begining or ending title music.

Sorry, that's wrong. The main title music is not a song, it's a musical score.

How do you determine that Kevin?  The person who wrote the Theme may not be the same one who wrote the music for the Movie or TV episode.  In many TV series you will have someone credited for the Theme song and someone credited for the Music by for the show itself.

Just a technical point, for ST:TOS the original theme had lyrics

Gene Roddenbury wrote them (therefore he always gets a writer's credit for it - edit - though he is NOT credited on the show's credits, but is I believe credited on the sheet music legal bit)

Alexander Courage was (to my knowledge) not a happy man about that (Royalties I guess)
Signature? We don't need no stinking... hang on, this has been done... blast [oooh now in Widescreen]
Ah... well you see.... I thought I'd say something more interesting... but cannot think of anything..... oh well

Me and another user ("Xedos") already added complete cast lists for the German releases of "Star Trek: The Next Generation". For Seasons 1 and 2, crew is also complete. I added the crew for Season 5 yesterday, so the contribution is currently pending. All you have to do is copy the lists and replace the German episode titles with the English ones (episode sort order is the same).

As you said, Gene Roddenberry is credited as "Created by" for most episodes, but not for all (for several episodes in Season 1 he is credited as Executive Producer only). I did not add credits for him when he is listed as "Created by" because it is currently unclear how to handle this. Jerry Goldsmith and Alexander Courage are listed as "Song Writer".

The UPCs for the German releases are:

Season 1: 4-010884-590234
Season 2: 4-010884-590241
Season 3: 4-010884-590258
Season 4: 4-010884-590265
Season 5: 4-010884-500271
Season 6: 4-010884-590289
Season 7: 4-010884-590296
