For common names where nicknames are to be included and are shown within "", () or ', should we standardize how it is entered?

There is already another poll HERE on whether nicknames should be included, so please keep this topic on discussing a standard (if any) to adopt IF a nickname is to be included.

Any answer is fine, except for No 2, since that is the format used by another site.

Good point. By using option 1 or 3 and certainly never option 2 it would make it easier to spot the data that has come directly from that site.

I certainly wouldn't want to go with option 5: "Use the most credited form as shown in the new database search". Because the database is (at the moment) obviously still largely full of data from that site.

So far the poll indicates a preference for the "Nickname" format, closely followed by case-by-case.

I'm certain that it would be much better to have a standard "Nickname" format because it would mean less polls/discussions on them in the forums and would go a long way to ensure that all users will use the same name.

Are there any examples where it would be inappropriate to use the "Nickname" format?

Could you provide an example of "Case-by-case basis"?

It just means that each name would be looked at individually, inevitablly resulting in a poll in the forums to decide on the formatting of each nickname.
