| Posted: | | | | Hi,
I find DVDP too slow. Especially starting the program takes too long. I'm using DVDP on a high-end machine with lots of RAM and a Core2Duo, but still, it takes up to 30 seconds until DVDP is open (I havearoung 500 DVDs in my database). In my opinion this is quite annoying...
I hope this can be set on the ToDo list for one of the next versions... |

| Posted: | | | | Try repairing the database. I have a hundred more than you and it only takes 8 seconds for me to start up with a similar system.

| Posted: | | | | I agree with Doc. The problem is in your computer, not the program per se, though repair might help. Mine opens in about 20 seconds, with 10 times the titles and a 3 year old computer.

| Posted: | | | | I'd agree to try to repair the database. My computer is a Core2Duo as well, and the program usually opens in about 15 seconds. | | | Corey |

| Posted: | | | | I'm repairing my DB on a regular basis and clean up the images folder (did it just a few days ago), so that's not the issue. However, if you don't experience the same thing, it sounds really like something on my PC (4GB RAM, Core2Duo, though) |

However, if you don't experience the same thing, it sounds really like something on my PC (4GB RAM, Core2Duo, though) I think it is also depending on your running background tasks. Some virus scanners and firewalls may slow down your machine significant. I use an old machine, PIII 1Ghz with 512MB Ram. Programme start is about 15-20sec whilst loading about 1.700 profiles with highres front and back covers. When I start the programme on another machine (Laptop PIV 2,53 Ghz 1 Gig Ram) the profiler needs about 10-15 sec to start. A few month ago I tested the performance on a Celeron V330 with 196MB Ram and 8 MB graphics. Programme start was about 30-40 sec. | | | Thorsten |

| Posted: | | | | With an empty database it's much faster. About 10 seconds... When I change to my regular DB while DVDP is open, it takes about 5 seconds to load, which sounds OK...
I'm ging to test disabling virus checker (OneCare). I don't have any other relevant background tasks running, like AdBlocker, Firell etc... |

There should be almost no difference between an empty database and one with 500 profiles. However, I don't know how factors like many cast/crew headshots, many boxsets, or using the thumbnail collection list would affect the performance. To isolate a problem with your current database itself, you could do a backup, create a new and empty database, and restore only all profiles and covers. Do not use the Copy function of the Open Database dialog, because this would duplicate any problems that may currently exist in your database. | | | Matthias |

| Posted: | | | | Sounds like a combination of antivirus and fragmented system to me. Try this defrag-software. Measure startup-time with antivirus disabled, some antivirus software is a real resource-hog. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

However, if you don't experience the same thing, it sounds really like something on my PC (4GB RAM, Core2Duo, though) there may also be problems since you have 4 Gb memory. I don't know which operating system you are using but the total addressable memory with 32 Bit operating systems is 4 GB - which includes all memory it can see i.e. Ram , video card memory, swap file(?) etc. So I don't know whether your video card is using your Ram or memory on the video card? It's defineltly the case that sometimes more is less. Also, have a look at the Av you are using - it sounds like it is checking the database as it's being read and you could try excluding the data directory or the program from your AV. | | | Paul |

| Posted: | | | | You can also try opening Task Manager in Windows, and look at which Programs and Services are running and the current CPU and memory usage of them. Processor/Memory hogs (antivirus, etc...) should be visible there, if that's the problem. | | | Corey |
