Just a suggestion for mass new licensing of DVD profiler.  And just because it's the sort of thing I consult on, and my brain tends to go that way

It seems to me from my own experience since acquiring DVD Profilier, and from what I read on the forums, that the software itself acts as quite a strong spur to adding to your DVD collection (and feeding the obsession).

If that observation seems correct, and if you were able to gather enough evidence of that fact for third party beancounters to comprehend (by perhaps forum surveys using questions such as average monthly purchases before and after acquiring DVD profiler), THEN ..

If DVD Profiler was my business, I'd be taking that data to the major online DVD retailers (or perhaps start with Amazon and offer an "Amazon Exclusive" or "Amazon Wrapped" version) with the argument that the retailer should pay you a bulk rate license fee, and in turn offer DVD Profiler as a bonus software download under a given marketing situation (free with every DVD purchase over $100, or free to DVD customers who have made more than 10 purchases, or whatever). 

The business case for Amazon, or whoever you approach, is simply that the software itself will significantly increase sales volumes from their own existing customers.

I began collecting DVDs in 1997 and to 2000 had less than 600 invested. Ran into Profiler in the Spring of 2000 and since  that time have averaged $5000 per year.

I guess I'm in the minority on this one. I haven't increased my purchases due to my catalog system, it's because they are releasing so many films now that weren't available just 3 years ago.

I started with Guzzlefish, then that crapped out. Tried DVDAfficionado, but their system is too laborious. Found Profiler and DVDSpot at the same time and am happy with both. Profiler for offline and DVDSpot when I'm online. But neither system was responsible for the increase of my collection. The responsibilty lies with the fact that the film companies finally realized that there was a substantial market for their vaulted films and they finally released them.

Now, I have about 9,000 profiles and a 1000 more I have yet to enter.

I could have bought a Jag or BMW-M6 convertible, where would I drive today.

Years ago when I traveled by air, to fix a problem, I had a guaranteed seat, so If the flight was full
I’d wait to check in and they would kick me up to first class. Plus stewards were pretty young women.
On one Apollo shot they were worried about the computer, so they flew me first class from Phoenix, L.A. to Tampa.
I was the only paying passenger with 8 stewards on vacation going to Brazil, flying sure has changed.

So what’s to do, watch DVDs.

I had 113 before I purchased DVD Profiler May 29, 2000, although I had used it a while before. When I guess
I could dig up some save CDs and check, some place I have a copy of every DVD Profiler update and db save.

When I retired I took a few years break from computers, my 486 with DR Dos, Window 3.3 and Boland's Pascal was all I needed.
And remote, the Internet, I didn't need either. I had spent enough time debugging that sh….

There are a lot of reasons I started buying DVDs, In Arizona, they paved the roads to the lakes, tourists crowding.
I used to be able to hike the Grand Canyon or whatever when I wanted.
Travel whether plane or car has become a pain in the you know what.
The availability of more movies and better quality than Laser Discs or tape and now TV shows.

I won't say I would not buy so many DVDs if I didn't have the Profiler, but it sure has made it easier.

Plus from the forum I see I'm not the only idiot collecting them.

I can tell you that my DVD purchasing habits dramatically increased after finding DVDP.

i think mass licensing sounds like a cool way of growing the product, lol I'm am always trying to talk people into buy dvd profiler (hell atm I'm trying to talk a couple of members of my family into it) even if they have  only a few dvd's As i love the product and i know that other cataloguing software cant hold a candle to this one (damn i wish they did other versions...like for cds... *ducks* )

Anyway, when i bought dvd profiler i had 385 dvd's i now have 811 (2 years later)   with 1133 in my wish-list and that's not even complete!!!

You used Excel too, eh??  After unsuccessfully attempting to create my own database program in Access (trying to cross-link everying still makes my head spin), I created a basic one in Excel too.  Then I ran across DVDProfiler (at I believe Tucows.com), downloaded it as a trial, used it for maybe 1 hour and promptly purchased it.  The first time I opened up the program and entered my first DVD, I knew I had come home.  :sigh:
