Not only do i find these www.dvdpascher.net links in a lot of profiles that have a different locality then the review itself, a lot of them are also incorrect, example:

http://www.invelos.com/Database.aspx?task=links&upc=3259190361393.9

Using the red button only gives a negative vote so that the link doesn't show up first and although i do not mind checking the submitted links, i have found more wrong ones then correct ones when it comes to these links.

It's kind of a waste of time so maybe it might be a better idea to remove them all together from the database.

I was under the impression that the were a flag for Ken so that the links could be reviewed as to their validity and deleted if it were determined that they were in fact invalid.

Not based on what Ken has said so far, 8Ball. I thought the same thing, but evidently the negative votes simply get pushed lower in the order on the list. But i think they should be removed. I was not upset about them initially since we didn't have switches, when we go them I went back and corrected the ones I had done for reviews so that they would only reflect on THAT profile instead of the entire world but....some users...

This is what Ken said on May 9th (bolding by me):

Few more notes:

Links can only be submitted by premium users.  The links page allows premium users to rate links as Valid or Invalid.  These ratings affect the link only, NOT the submitting user's reputation.  Higher rated links are listed first and low rated links will be investigated for removal.  Link ratings are tied to an individual profile/link relationship in order to allow identifying links that don't belong to a particular profile.

Also, submitted link counts show in the submitter's profile page.  To see your own profile page you can now click on your username in the upper right.

Submitted links can be removed by the submitter if desired.  Submitted links can't be recategorized but the submitter can remove the link and add it again.  Links recognized by the system are given a category which cannot be changed.

I have deleted all dvdpascher reviews for non French movies, and sent them again using the "This profile only" option.

I left French movies reviews as they were, as Ken confirmed me by PM that it is correct :

Quoting Ken Cole:

Example: If the original movie was created in the US, and the disc is for France, English links can be added via Title/Production Year, but French links should only be added via exact match.

If it's originally a French movie, French links can be added via Title/Production Year.

As it is not possible to verify the job, it is possible that I missed some links among the four hundred ones. If somebody notices a problem, he can PM me so that I correct the problem.

Will do, surfeur. Though i have a suggestion, even relative to French films. A fren ch film released in R1 US is not likely to have the same specs as a Regon 2 France version, thus making the review useless. To give a simpler example thant might ne easier to explain, let's say the Original release Wall Street and the recen Collector's Edition, the two prints are not the same and the resulting quality of the images are not the same. There are sites that would, in this case do a comparison review of the two, which is uesfu. But I would not take a Wall Street Review and allow it to be plugged into anything other than that relkease that it is relevant to. Menaing I would not put CE into the Original release data or vice versa.

As a potential film review it might be intersting, but relative to ANY DVD Sepcifications it would useless out side of French interest. Just my thoughts on it.

As usual, I totally disagree with your analysis. In fact, it is not very interesting for me to have a review for an edition I own, as it is easy to have my own opinion. But, in certain cases, I'm not happy with technical specs (4/3, or pan&scan, or bad compression, or bad sound...) of the edition I own. If I could read reviews about other editions (for example Germany, Belgium, Italy, Netherlands...) to make me sure to find in them a good French audio and a good image, I would find it very useful. Same idea, I think that it could be interesting for an Italian to know that there is a very good edition in France with an italian audio track, if the Italian edition is poor.

Of course, that would require that people here would be tolerant, open-minded, and could sleep well despite links that are not in their own language or in english, which doesn't seem to be the case for everyone here.

I don't have any problems with your reviews aded to the profile links, exept they should belong where there supposed to be for every non french title:

Link Guidelines Quote:
Quote:
For links which match the locality of the original content, submit via Title/Production Year. For others, submit via "This Profile Only"
and not in the main profile.
Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions.

Have you read what I wrote in my two precedent posts?

If no, please read...
If yes, you are really obtuse: in my first post, I wrote that I did what is requested by guidelines, and in the second I explain why it could be interesting to share reviews. So I really do not need that you quote those guidelines I followed exactly.

Very "friendly" conclusion you make about the people on these forums..

You talk about tolerance, being open-minded etc. and in the same post, you try to make things work your way "accusing" other people that they aren't. Right..

Besides, it's part of your answer on a post by skipnet50 who clearly states: "Just my thoughts on it". Apparently not allowed in your opinion, talk about tolerancy.

Following your way of thinking we should also have links in Chinese or Swahili, cause hey, there might be a Bulgarian Soundtrack on one of them that is better then my Japanese collector's edition of: "Butter, brear en greene chees, wo dat net sisse kon is kein oprjochte frysk! Fries voor beginners", of which the Bulgarian Soundtrack, although spoken by an Hawaiian, is a lot better then the one i originally bought in Egypt.

There is only one reason for you to respond to people in the way you are doing right now and that is because the discussion is about a French website.

Yeah that's all the tolerance we need.
