| Posted: | | | | 1. When editing a form make the "OK" key default.
2. When adding a new DVD if there is no data for 'disc info' then automatically add 'main feature' so that you can add
the location info later.
3. With series discs there is no way to display or report the location of the discs other than the main disc.
4. It would be nice to be able to flag a number of records and then group update/insert information into a field.
5. It would be nice to have a window remember the position it was placed in last so you don't have to keep moving it as
you repeat the same operation (update the location, slot) on a series of discs.
6. When updating the genre on discs the updates do no show until you exit DVD Profiler and restart. |

I'd rather disconnect the necessity of entering a disc witj the ability to enter a location, since many people have been using it for other things than the location within a player. Quote: 3. With series discs there is no way to display or report the location of the discs other than the main disc. You could profile the disc individually. Quote: 4. Another great idea, I sometimes wish to mass edit some fields like genres or collection numbers (e.g. set to "none") | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

2. When adding a new DVD if there is no data for 'disc info' then automatically add 'main feature' so that you can add the location info later. x: Yes, I'd like that too.
3. With series discs there is no way to display or report the location of the discs other than the main disc. x: I don't get this
4. It would be nice to be able to flag a number of records and then group update/insert information into a field. x: Bulk edit!? Yes!!! :D
5. It would be nice to have a window remember the position it was placed in last so you don't have to keep moving it as you repeat the same operation (update the location, slot) on a series of discs. x: What window? Couse, my window, the edit profile window, always stays at the same position. However, I would like it to center to the program and not the screen.
6. When updating the genre on discs the updates do no show until you exit DVD Profiler and restart. x: If you are talking about the collection list you may want to try switching to View as Detail then back to View as List.

When you edit a profile, the screen you see is a "form". Every form can have a default "Accept button", that is activated if you press enter anywhere in that form. For example, when you go to Tools -> Options in your browser, the OK-Button is the "Accept button". The reverse is the default "Cancel button". It's the one that gets activated, if you hit the Escape key. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

I was fishing for which form he was talking about. Becouse, what we are talking about here is which component should receive focus first and for the Personalization dialog when adding a new profile that is Purchase Date. It may not be desirable to have the OK button receive focus first in all forms. DJ Doena, thanks for the info though |

Hi, this isn't about which control gets the focus, it's about what happens when you press "Enter" in any control in that window. Take this program for example (trust me, no harm will come from it). No matter in which control your focus is, when you press Enter or Escape it will react the same as if you had hit the corresponding buttons. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

As I reported here, I have been working on this for ages. Have scaled way back from my abitious orginal goals and am nearing the completetion of what I think might be a useful beta. Focus is on personalization data, and data validation / integrity. No good being able to edit and then mess up the database, so I am almost paranoid about getting it right. There is a simulation mode for testing the changes without making updates to the database, and a detailed log with a cell-by-cell accounting of the changes. (Edit: all edited fields must pass validation or the updated profile will not be saved). The paradigm will be (1) flag a few (say up to 100-200) profiles using any techiques you want, then call BulkEdit. You can select from three categories to edit: Flagged, WishList, or Manual Profiles. There are also functions for creating and managing Manual Profiles, and adding / editing discs. I hope that it will be useful. My orginal purpose for this idea was to allow more convenient editing of Location and Slots for the LoadDVD plugin, and it kind of grew from there. | | | Thanks for your support. | Posted: | | | | mediadogg, will your plug-in operate on flagged profiles? I ask because using my plug-in, I've found that I have a bunch of profiles from Amazon and a bunch from Amazon.com. I can select one bunch or the other with my plug-in and save the results as a flagset. That would be a neat trick to use that flagset with your plugin to change the purchase place. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

Actually it was the announcement of your plugin that broke the logjam for me and gave me renewed hope. I was struggling with how to subset the collection for editing. With the query tool, and / or filters, that problem goes away, and I can focus on validated editing. The Purchase Place, I am still working on. As a developer, you know the problem. One solution I have thought of is a "crawler mode" - a background task that runs when you tell it to, that crawls thru the database, at low priority, and makes a collection of all tags, purchase places, user names, etc. to populate the drop downs for the edit tool. (Of course, for most fields that is not necessary, as you know). (Edit: I would save those drop-downs between sessions, and the user controls when to re-crawl, and/or whenever the DVD changed event is triggered, I would just check to see if any new values have shown up since the last crawl.) (Another edit: BTW, I do already have a right-click context menu with an option to bring up Personal Info Edit as a work-around for the moment.) First release of the beta will only display those fields, but not edit until I can figure out a high-performance way to get them. Of course it may be solved with 3.5 if we get new API functions. If there is another technique I haven't thought of, send me a PM, and I will implement it immediately. Edit: Ok, I did the Profile Crawler. It works at 10 profiles / sec. Then it keeps up to date dynamically. Released a Beta of BulkEdit. If I get any good feedback, I will continue with it, otherwise let it RIP. | | | Thanks for your support. | Posted: | | | | These requests have been made many times before, but that doesn't make them any less valid Quote: 3. With series discs there is no way to display or report the location of the discs other than the main disc. Are you talking about if there is more than one disc in a profile? All discs should show up in the 'discs' window and in reports. They do not however show in the collection list. Is this what you're talking about? |
