| Posted: | | | | Hopefully, I'm just missing it, but with every new release I anxiously wade through the release notes to see if an Aspect Ratio filter has been added to the program. I thought for sure it would be in this new release as it seemed like a major update. But, alas, I see nothing about it.
Can anyone confirm/deny for me? I have been a DVD Profiler owner for many years now, and am really disappointed this feature is continually ignored. I just don't get it ... this is an invaluable feature that seems like it would be EXCEEDINGLY EASY to implement.
Am I missing something? I've seen some far less desireable, and seemingly more difficult to implement features added over-and-over. Then again, I'm not a programmer (any more), so maybe it's harder than it would appear?
Thanks, Tim
PS> I know about the CSV export, but really would -- as I suspect many others would as well -- like to see this included in the APP ... soon! |

| Posted: | | | | Why would you want to filter on 'aspect ratio'? Just curious. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. Well, maybe it isn't implemented because too few people ask for it. A quick search turns up 3(!) request for such a filter, and that includes yours. If you understandably don't want to use CSV-Export for this try Database Query, that plug-in might have a solution for your needs. cya, Mithi PS JFTR: I'm curious too what this filter might be needeed for, because I honestly can't see any application for it. | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki | | | Last edited: by Mithi |

| Posted: | | | | I don't really see a need for such a filter, personally. We could have filters for everything, some just aren't all that useful.

A good database-program is designed well enough that you don't waste valuable time/resourses searching for any parameter, just relevent parameters . | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

It does indeed handle this. And it does it quite well. Is there something needed beyond that? | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

| Posted: | | | | I suppose we could post a poll, as I'd venture more people would like it then have mentioned on the forum. Heck, I just did it and I've wanted it for some time. (Shame on me, I know.) While not a critical feature (what is, at this point?), it sure would come in handy on occasion.
Admitedlly, it's an issue probably affecting those with projectors (whether they sometimes realize it or not) more than those viewing on small (relatively speaking) viewing devices -- like all TV's, even the larger ones. When you cross into the "theater-like" sized viewing setup it is more likely to be an issue. Right there your greatly reducing the number of people I suppose.
I'm viewing a 120" diagonal screen and I deal with a manual masking setup. Just like you use various other filters to widdle down your movie choices for an evening for yourself or a guest(s), the aspect can be a key factor in your movie selection. There are times I don't want to alter my masking setup or I just feel like watching a flick that fills the entire viewing surface. Then there are times when I'm just simply researching, and this data (and more importantly the ability to sort it) would be useful.
Also it would be cool just to know how many of my movies are 1.85 vs. 2.40 for example. Although I suspect for a virtually one-time application like this I could you the "DB Query" easily enough.
Take care, Tim |

| Posted: | | | | I have a little portable DVD player. I have often searched for 1.78-1.85 films to watch as I don't care to watch 1.33 on that player. Also, I find that 2.40 is a bit punishing on that player, so yes, a filter would be great! If I had a filter: I would know how many Cinemascope films I have.I could find all of my 2.4 films so I could edit them to 2.40.I like the idea of a filter for this (DB Query notwithstanding ) . | | | ...James

When we go on a road trip, the kids always hate watching anything 2.40 or wider on those things as they are so small to begin with. Fortunately, MOST kids films are 1.85 ... but they aren't always interested in kiddie flicks. -Tim |
