| Posted: | | | | I just downloaded DVD profiler to my iPad, and updated with my collection over wireless. Took a while (maybe 5 minutes, I have approx 2000 DVDs) no error messages, then message that update was complete. Cannot see a single entry anywhere. If I push the "Collection" button it only says "No entry selected". Same for "Browse". Is there somethign really basic I've missed? |

| Posted: | | | | Press the home button to exit, press it twice again to bring up the shortcut bar, and if DVDP isn't visible, slide right until it is. Press and hold on the icon until they wiggle, click on the X button for DVDP. Press the home button to close the shortcut bar. This removes DVDP from memory. Relaunch.
If that doesn't fix, try performing a DB repair on the desktop and delete the database on your ipad, resync. |

| Posted: | | | | Thanks for the reply, but aren't you suggesting I delete DVD Profiler from my iPad? Since I paid for it I am not too happy about having to do that. |

| Posted: | | | | Hi Once you purchase an app you can D/L it as many times as you need to. Just reselect it in iTunes and a popup will appear notifying you that you have already bought it and that you can redownload for free. No worries BTW: Removing an app from the multitasking bar does NOT delete it from the device, it just terminates the running process in memory. | | | Tom

| Posted: | | | | Did you take Dr. K's advice and do a database repair on your collection in your PC. If not you should. I run one on my collection once a month just to make sure everything is OK. If you look at some of the other problem threads in here you will see that has helped solve a few strange issues. | | | Tom

| Posted: | | | | Removing, reinstalling and updating was not successfull.
Have rnow epaired database on PC, removed DVD Profile on the iPadr, reinstalled and am updating again. VEEERy SLOW, but that might be a good thing? As there are no error messages I guess that means it has found something? Both "connecting" and "reading database" have blacks ticks by them. |

How does one go about getting a refund? When you deleted the app reinstalled and restarted it were you asked. to create a new database? If not then you should delete the database on the iPad and create a new one and resync. As far as a refund is concerned, I personally have never done it but you must contact Apple and work through them to get your money back. | | | Tom

| Posted: | | | | I have tried many times, here is a step-by-step description of what I do, starting with nothing on the iPad: 1. Enter AppStore on my iPd through password protected WLAn at home 2. Select DVD Profiler for iOS under iPad Apps 3. Press Install 4. Darkened icon appears, reading "loading", then "installing", then icon "lights up" 5. Select DVD Profiler on my iPad by pusing the icon, this texts comes up: "Since this is your first run, we'll ask you a few questions to get your collection going". 6. I press "Let's get started" 7. Since I have DVD Profiler on my PC (recently repaired at the suggestion in this forum, without any effects either way) I select "Yes, connect to DVD Profiler" when asked "Do you use DVD Profiler for PC?" 8. On my PC I have DVD Profiler set to sharing, on port 32847, with "Grant access to any computer on the internet", with "Require Password" checked and "Change Access" unchecked. 9. When pressing "Test" I am told that the collection is not accessible. 10. I then try access via "My network (subnet ) only", but now the "Test" option disappears. 11. I press "Connect to DVD Profiler for PC" 12. Under HOST I enter the the IP address visible in the bottom line on my DVD Profiler, which reads: "Shared on 'CGnyPC' (10.0.0.60), port 32847: 0 connected", i.e. 10.0.0.60, under PORT I enter 32847 and under PASSWORD I enter the same password I entered in DVD Profiler. 13. I then press continue. 14. I chose the name "Default". (I have also tried "iPad".) 15. I press "Save Database" 16. "No Entry Selected" shown on screen. 17. I press "Database" icon at bottom of page and chose "Update Default". 18. Under "Connect to DVD Profiler" server 10.0.0.60 and port 32487 shoes up. This should be correct? 19. I press "Update" 20. I immediately get a black check after "Connecting", then after 10-20 seconds of a blue bar extending rightswards a black check after "Reading Database", then after 4-5 minutes of blue bar I get a black check after "Copying profiles", then after 5-6 minutes a black check after "Copying images". 21. No error messages are ever shown. I have just over 2000 DVDs and BluRays in total. I have exported/backed up my DVD profiler for use with (a) another PC in my network, (b) for use with an Universal remore MX-3000 remote control and (c) for use with Cinemar software. I have also imported the data into Excel successfully. 22. Still, after the Update the following happens: "Update complete", I press "Okay". 23. There seems to be absolutely nothing on the iPad, No Entry Selected is shown, but nothing else anywhere. 24. Am I doing something incorrectly or forgetting a step??? |

I would try the following: step 8 Uncheck require password step 9 - I remember it being mentioned that Test doesn't work sometimes - but I'm loath to disconnect my ipod to check this. I think it was mentioned it was only for accessing via the internet? Hopefully someone else can correct me. step 14 the name wanted here is the name of the database on the PC. Mine is called 'default'. Is yours? Step 16 this isn't finding the database so everything after this point is problematical.. - things to check - have you got a software firewall? if so try switching it off whilst you are trying to connect to the PC - have you got more than 1 router - check that the Pc is connected directly (not via a switch) and that your ipad is connected to the same one - the ip address of the ipad should be 10.0.0.something - check that the router isn't blocking the Ipad (for instance did you switch on MAC address control (try switching it off) | | | Paul |

| Posted: | | | | Dear Paul,
thanks for these hints, I will try them tomorrow. Meanwhile, from the behaviour of the iPad I believe it does connect with and download from the database, but fails to store and/or display what it downloads, do you not agree? When I give the iPad the wrong server name or password it immediately informs me of this and fails to connect. Mine now gives me no error warning, and takes a while apparently to download (slow but even progress on the download bars, then they appear checked).
I have read that many have problems syncing via WLAN, I don't know if my updating the database is what is called syncing, but how else would I update? I am reluctant to connect my iPad to my PC with the USB cable, I did this once and (a) everything on my iPad was wiped and (b) I had to download iTunes which made my PC so slow and unstable that I had to reset/restore it to factory settings, loosing lots of data in the process.

| Posted: | | | | One more thing,
Once I press update on the iPad the line at the bottom of DVD Profiler on the PC changes from ...": 0 connected" to "....: 1 connected". |

Christopher what seems a problem to me is that at step 16 it isn't finding the name of the database on your Pcs hard disk. This can be called anything - for instance I have a couple, one of which is 'default' - but you could have set this to anything when you created it. have a look under file/databases on your Pc and check what you have called the database on your PC. (I'm at work so have no access to dvd profiler so I'm guessing where the option is). | | | Paul |
