| Posted: | | | | I would like to see genres called "Live Event" for example, Sporting events ie Super Bowl, WWE Events ie. Wrestlemania and Music Concerts. This genres would not be for documentaries. This genres would be for events shown in their entirety. Also should we have a genres for Wrestling and Fitness ie. work-out sessions. Alot of DVDs are out there and I find Special Interest in too vague. I'm aware we can custom are own genres. | | | Last edited: by Man of Steel |

| Posted: | | | | As I said in the other thread, I don't particularly agree with these. Personally think Custom Genres is fine for these. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Agree with Pete. This is exactly what Custom Genres are for. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | Pete and Silence are correct. Adding more genres seems a little "risky" to me, we have most of the majors covered I believe. I think any where we went would add sub genres; romantic comedy, sci fi thriller or whatever combo you like. Save these for custom. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. | Posted: | | | | Yeah, I'm also inclined to use custom genres for this ... I wouldn't add it to the existing genres considering how few people would make use of it.
I do the same for some genres I own. For example, I consider Tokusatsu (Japan sci-fi live action) a seperate genre so I've added that as custom genre and that works perfectly well locally. | | | Blu-ray collection DVD collection My Games My Trophies |

| Posted: | | | | In regards to new genres, one that I think would be good to add would be "Alternate Lifestyles" which would cover mainstream films such as Brokeback Mountain that deals with that.
Right now most region 1 profiles for that title just list Drama as the genre. Only one lists Romance and Western as the other two genres. |

| Posted: | | | | Just call it bromance<shrugs>. Even at that cubby it would be minor genre at best. Just the thing for custom entry, how many such films are out there out of the thousands of films possible, the number would be incredibly small. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! | Posted: | | | | Sorry I disagree that it's a tiny bit of titles that would be affected.
I suggest going to the TLA Video site and see all the titles that are out on DVD/Blu-Ray that fall under the "Alternate Lifestyle" genre.

So, for a heterosexual person, any film that has a gay theme would be considered an "Alternate Lifestyle" film? Then I suppose gays would have to classify any film that is not gay themed as "Alternate Lifestyle" as well since it doesn't conform to their "Lifestyle" choice...right? So...every film currently on the market would have to be classified as "Alternate Lifestyle" because they either do or don't conform to one's personal "Lifestyle" . | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

| Posted: | | | | Agreed. There is more reasons then number of titles that may or may not use such a thing.
I personally think only the standard genres familiar to everyone is all that needs to be in the main database. Everything else should be local only with custom genres.
While there may be one or two missing that I could see qualifying for the main database... I think as it is now mostly has it covered. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Or what about L/G/B/T for Lesbian/Gay/Bi-Sexual/Transgender?
So if we would list Brokeback Mountain as a Drama then that classes it as the same as films such as Norma Rae or Schindler's List.
Or if we call it a Romance then it gets connected to films such as every Romantic Comedy or films such as Love Story.
By adding such a genre to the main database it separates such titles from others, something the current genre list doesn't allow.
But whatever.
But what I do see here is a lot of ignorance of the subject of films such as Brokeback Mountain. |

| Posted: | | | | Maybe some of us don't see a need to distinguish these titles from any other titles involving romance. Whether it is a man and woman, two men or two women... romance is romance.
I still think custom genres is the best solution for such a thing. | | | Pete |
