| Posted: | | | | At least remove them for cast and crew and auto-clear whenever a new version changes the options for a field. |

| Posted: | | | | I have hated these from Day 1... would love to see them gone. To many things get locked to keep personal preference and too many things change/need updating (especially after new versions come out) without an easy way to get them unlocked. IMO it was bad design from day 1. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | The only time I thought they'd be useful they were quickly overridden by the screener who thought differently, so yeah, throw them out, they won't be missed! | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 | | | Last edited: by Nexus the Sixth |

| Posted: | | | | IIRC, these were added largely because someone didn't like me messing with genres in the database. |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting TomGaines: Quote: Yes, please remove them. As far as I remember, they come from a time, when we didn't have the voting system. And I think there were there when we didn't have yet the possibility for partial contributions. They also come from a time when the contribution mindset was completely different, since their were no rules and no contribution notes. Even the Sort title was contributed, which meant people entering their personal preferences like "Bond 01" rather than "Dr. No." So the locks were developed to keep information that shouldn't change (like a title) free from alteration. But the locks didn't account for changes to the type of information that could be found in a specific field. Now that we have a solid voting system, the on-line locks are no longer necessary. |

| Posted: | | | | My understanding is that they were also added to stop ping ponging once enough people agreed to a certain value.

But they are never released even when the rules on a particular filed changes. And I cannot remember seeing a full six-lock on any contribution I made in the last few years. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online
