Today a friend gave my daughter a Kindle Fire. I Looked up Kindle Fire and it says it is an Android tablet. Looking at the version it says she has...

Version 10.3.1

Questions:
1. Will DVD Profiler App work on this? (If need more info just ask)
2. Will she need the Desktop version as well to use this App?

I must say... I am a little jealous... it looks like a neat little thing.

1) No, the Google Play app will not work on an Amazon device; Amazon doesn't allow this.  However, Ken has submitted the android app to the Amazon App store.  Once Amazon approves the app she'll be able to purchase the DVD Profiler for Android app through the Amazon App store.

EDIT: A bit more information on the Kindle Fire.  Although it's an android device it's a customized version of Android and Amazon locks out certain parts of its capability because they want you to purchase through their stores.

2) She doesn't need the desktop version of the app although it would be helpful.  You can add titles to a local database or to a DVD Profiler Online database but you're limited in what data can be edited.  Most of the editable data is limited to purchase information or disc location.

We got the Andriod profiler on my daughter's Kindle today. She has DVD profiler on her laptop. So trying to port it over from that through wifi.

- Got the IP Address
- turned on sharing on her computer

Going to update it just stays on connecting. Any ideas... what are we missing? We are both new to anything other then pc.

Make sure the specified port is open on your router and that any firewall or Antivirus software isn't blocking the device from communicating with PC.

Thanks... I opened the port in the router... checked the port in both the firewall and the antivirus. But unfortunately it is still doing the same exact thing.

I presume the phone can already access your network without issue however if it can't make sure you have MAC address/network filtering turned on in the router make sure the MAC address is listed otherwise the router will block the request attempts.  Also make sure there isn't any AV software on the phone which is preventing you from accessing the PC.

Do the router logs show any information that might pinpoint a blocked attempt?

You may already be doing so but connect to the IP address (as given in the bar at the bottom of DVD Profiler open on the PC screen) rather than the computer 'name' it gives you.. for some reason this seems to work much better.

OHHHH, shame on you Pete.  That will cost you one movie this week. Now go to your room and think about what you did.  LOL

If the PC is on a wired connection, it's possible that the wifi router's security is blocking the connection.  Some routers have a setting that segregates wired and wireless connections. Check the router's setup in the wireless or security sections for a setting like that and disable it.  If you can't find it, please post the brand/model of router and we'll go from there.

The computer I need it to sync to is a laptop... so also wireless.

I have the router on an old win XP machine... DVD Profiler on 2 different laptops (both Windows 7... mine and my daughter's) Needs to connect with my daughter's.

The Router is a Netgear WNR1000

Can't think of any other info to give.

Check the IP addresses of both devices. Are they in the same range? They should start with the same first three number sections.
