Currently, the contribution form looks like this:

This is how I propose it should look like:

this way there could be a two-way validation:

A) Did the user enter a comment for each checked item?

B) Did the user check an item s/he entered a comment for?

As for contribution voting, it could either also be presented in the new way so the voters could see the comment to the item or - because it may be technically difficult in comparison to the old way -, the contribution note could simply be made up of the individual notes. That would also have the advantage that the notes would be in the same order as the contributed fields.

That would be very cool, especially for the order part, if it's feasible.

I would also like to be able to vote on each field individually. I just voted no to a contribution be because they didn't add notes for 2 fields for me to know why they were changed.

- Changed a genre with no notes (no biggie here... I actually agreed)
- Changed 1 studio and removed 2 or 3 studios. (with no idea how or why... maybe they just didn't update their profile before making a contribution? So I felt I had to vote no)

Too much hassle IMO. We want to make contributing as simple and as easy as possible but there are more and more little things you have to keep on top of in order to contribute (and a lot of them are links to threads and not even in the rules). This is why hardly anyone contributes anymore and the community has just a couple of hardcore users posting in the forum. I don't contribute much these days, but the bits I do contribute are usually things completely missing so now instead of a simple note like:
"Audio, subtitles, extras as per disc. Cast/crew as per end credits using CLY and BY thread where required. Genres, case type, colour, 3D added."

I would have to put notes into 9 different areas. No thanks.

EDIT: Btw, I love the idea behind it, and do think contributions should be able to be part accepted/declined - but this is too much to be bothered with and we'll lose even more contributors. It's a solid community, but do we really need to make notes for every single little thing individually?

It is already in the Contribution Notes
section of the rules you need to make complete notes for all changes...

Rules Quote:
Quote:

Contribution Notes

When you contribute a changed profile, you are required to include Contribution Notes. Use the space to enter full explanations for all changes and/or additions that you make. Make special reference to any changes where:

You have verified there is a discrepancy between the box and the actual content of the DVD - include your verification method.
You are making a subtle change that may be hard to spot - for example spelling correction to the overview.
    You are removing incorrect information.

Contribution Notes provide an explanation of your changes to other DVD Profiler users and Invelos for voting and deciding whether to accept your contribution, so make your notes useful and descriptive.

See the above rule... especially note what I put in bold.

I don't see this idea as a change in how we are supposed to do things.... more of making sure nothing is missed when we do it. It just helps verify that we are doing what we are already supposed to be doing per the rules as they are written. And that we don't miss any notes or check boxes.

What I'm getting at is that it is currently very easy to condense notes. What this would mean is making separate notes for every tiny little thing, no matter how trivial. Right now, I can write a single sentence that can cover a good chunk of changes:

"Audio, subtitles, extras, aspect ratio, colour, disc id, 3D as per disc." (currently one note for seven changes).

You want me to write 7 x as much every single time a similar contribution is made because now I would have to make separate notes on each little thing.

For notes such as that I can see how it would still be very simple... type in one  field "Verified on disc" (or such).... then copy and paste into all the ones that don't need more then that.

I see to often people not writing any notes at all for fields or forgetting to check off boxes for notes that were written. This would cut down on all of that.

I personally think it would be worth it. But hey... that is just my opinion on it.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I could see many positives for it too and think something which utilises some of the ideas would be a great improvement. I'd like to see what the end aim is of getting part submissions accepted/declined (I will vote yes if the majority is good, even if I spot a small mistake - and PM the contributor). I think the level of contribution you see varies massively region to region though.

US/Canada - People seem more fickle as this is where most people tend to contribute.

UK - People are a lot more forgiving on notes (I admit, I am not great at notes and make it as basic as possible), and although there is a working community for the UK, it has definitely dwindled significantly in the last few years.

About 10% of my releases are from other localities other than the above, but I don't see enough to fairly comment on how active those communities are. I tend to see the same 4-5 people across all.

I also think that this is a good idea as well.

I have not been contributing in the last year due to not having a working PC with the desktop version due to funds needed to make some repairs.

Are you anywhere close to London? I'll be there visiting my son next month. I have a whole bunch of spare PC parts in my workshop. Send me a PM if you want me to search for parts that might help you, so long as I can stuff them in my suitcase.
Thanks for your support.
